Dr. Michael VanPutte is the author of Walking Wounded – Inside the U.S. Cyberwar Machine. Dr. VanPutte’s career includes serving as a U.S. Army infantryman, airborne ranger, and combat engineer officer leading combat operations in Iraq, and retiring after twenty-four years as an information systems officer. Dr. VanPutte served in the U.S. Army War College Knowledge Engineering Group from 1997 to 1999. From 2002 to 2006 Dr. VanPutte served in the Joint Task Force - Computer Network Operations and Joint Task Force - Global Network Operations, U.S. Strategic Command as the Technical Analysis Branch Chief, Strategic Defense Operations Branch Chief and Deputy Director of Operations.

Dr. VanPutte was a Program Manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) from 2006 to 2010 where he created and managed numerous cyber research and development programs including the National Cyber Range, Dynamic Quarantine of Worms, Cyber Genome Program and other studies and research focused on revolutionizing offensive and defensive cyber operations and scientific cyber experimentation. Dr. VanPutte received a BS from The Ohio State University, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Columbia, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School. Dr. VanPutte is the Chief Scientist at Provatek where he leads multi-disciplinary projects involving conflict in cyberspace, and is currently working with DARPA to secure the U.S. electrical infrastructures.
